Hazrath Bishrul Hafi
Awliya
My dear brothers and sisters in Islam, today let us take a moment to delve into the life of a man whose name became synonymous with humility, piety, and steadfastness in the pursuit of righteousness - the great saint, Hazrath Bishrul Hafi رضي الله عنه.
Hazrath Bishrul Hafi رضي الله عنه was a unique luminary in the firmament of Islamic spirituality, a man who was lucratively engaged in worldly materials but chose to abandon them all for the undying love of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala). He is known as Bishr 'Al-Hafi,’ where Hafi means the barefooted. This attribute traces back to his life-changing encounter with divine admonition.
As the story goes, one day Hazrath Bishrul Hafi رضي الله عنه found a piece of paper with the name "Allah" on the streets of Baghdad. Touched by the thought that people had been stepping over it, he gently picked it up, cleaned it, and respectfully placed it high in his house. That night, he had a dream where he was told, "As you have honored my name, so shall I elevate your mention in this world and the next." True to the vision, this incident triggered a profound change in Bishr, making him renounce his former life. He began to walk barefoot, which earned him the name 'Al-Hafi.'
Bishrul Hafi رضي الله عنه was the embodiment of sincerity and devotion; his love for Allah (SWT) was unsurpassed. Often alone during the night, he would be found in prostration, his forehead placed humbly against the ground, and tears would be his silent companions. Even his laughter held remembrance of Allah; such was the intensity of his love.
He was the living example of the Hadith of our beloved Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), "Wealth is not a surplus of riches, real wealth is self-contentment." Despite his lack of material possessions, Hazrath Bishrul Hafi رضي الله عنه always radiated a sense of serene contentment, reflecting the richness of his soul.
But it was not just his purity of soul, devout heart, or barefooted humility that made him an exemplar. Hazrath Bishrul Hafi رضي الله عنه was a testament to the transformative power of sincere repentance. Despite a life initially ensnared by worldly desires, his transformation reflected the mercy and compassion of our Creator, who embraces every sincere heart that returns to Him.
His teachings and life continue to enlighten us, reminding us that materialism is transient, and it's the love of Allah that confers true contentment. He also emphasizes that those who truly value the name of Allah are indeed precious in His sight.
May we all be inspired by Hazrath Bishrul Hafi's رضي الله عنه example and strive to emulate his humility, his unwavering devotion to Allah. Let us be reminded that no matter our past, sincere repentance holds the power to change our present and future. Surely, the lessons of Bishrul Hafi رضي الله عنه are as relevant today as they were centuries ago and continue to illuminate our path towards piety and serenity.
